A STAR-STUDDED GATHERING AT BRECON BAROQUE FESTIVAL 2009 Brecon Baroque Festival, which runs between 23 and 26 October 2009, is a rare chance to hear some of the world's finest Baroque musicians on home turf. Violinist Rachel Podger, soprano Elin Manahan Thomas, countertenor Stephen Wallace, harpsichordist Gary Cooper, oboist Alexandra Bellamy, trumpeter Richard Formison, cellist Alison McGillivray and guest ensemble The Rare Theatricall gather for a four-day musical feast of JS Bach, JC Bach, Handel, Purcell, and Valentini. Also, for the first time this year, dancers Josie Laurel and Harlan Rust give a world premiere dance perfomance of Bach's Orchestral Suite in D major choreographed by Brecon-based dancer, Katie Sinnadurai. |

Brecon lies in the foothills of the Brecon Beacons and is a popular holiday base which offers a range of activities and leisure facilities. The town lies on the bank of the River Usk and is the terminus of the Monmouth and Brecon Canal. |

There are many attractions to visit including a Norman Cathedral with its own heritage centre, two museums: the South Wales Borderers Museum, which contains memorabilia of the Regiment's defence of Rourke's Drift and the Brecknock Museum which is situated in the Town's elegant former courthouse and is packed full of fascinating exhibits.

The River Usk flows through the town and the promenade along the Usk is an ideal area for a gentle stroll, you can even enjoy boating on the river. New additions to the town are Bethel Square Shopping Centre and Theatre Brycheiniog. There is a livestock market held every Tuesday and Friday and a craft market on the third Saturday of every month.
